Drayton Harbor Projects

Other Sources

Drayton Harbor is situated at the Canadian border. Pollution knows no political boundaries. Pollution from Canada could potentially affect US waters and pollution from US waters could potentially affect Canadian waters. White Rock is a large urbanized community in Canada with the same kinds of pollution issues that Blaine has- municipal sewer, on-site septics, boats, animal waste, etc.- just on a larger scale.

Canada also does not have the same boat waste restrictions that the US has- boats in Canada are allowed to discharge waste directly into the surrounding waters. Canada and the United States realize that there needs to be a combined effort to address water pollution problems across international boundaries and are pursuing these avenues.

  • Shared Waters partnership - Shared Waters is a cross-boundary group of Americans and Canadians working towards solving pollution issues that can affect both Canadian and U.S. waters. The group's focus in 2001 has been to get a proposal developed for a circulation study that would include both Semiahmoo Bay and Drayton Harbor. One of the first components the group will work on is developing integrated, comprehensive maps that incorporate both American and Canadian lands and waters
  • Boundary Bay Area Habitat Atlas - The Habitat Atlas is a compilation of mappable information such as land use, fish and wildlife populations, habitat conditions, and other data. The Habitat Atlas spans an area from the Fraser River Delta to the Birch Bay watershed. You will need to install the Mapguide Viewer plug-in to view the maps on this site.
